I'm replying to the original patch emails but reviewing the patches as  
they currently stand in the chris/merge tree. eg. For this one the  
final solution was quite different.

You should wait for Ben's opinion on these patches as well before  
merging them, these are just my viewpoints.

This one is good to merge. [And this is so obviously right I don't  
think you need to wait for Ben - always good to start with a rule and  
then break it immediately. :-)]
