I'm almost done with the Windows branch, I don't think it will change 
significantly from its current state before I'm ready to start merging it.
But if you want to start sooner then I'd be happy for that too.

I agree there are significant changes and that it will take some effort to 
review them and suggest changes until they are OK to merge. I'm happy to 
implement whatever changes are necessary or requested in order to get it 
merged.
