Actually, seems I was confused as to what actually goes into /var/ 
bbackupd.  Looks like its transient run-time files, so /var/run is  
fine for MacPorts too.


Semi-related, --sysconfdir is still getting ignored for me:

[dougal] ecronin% grep sysconfdir config.log
   $ ./configure --prefix=/opt/local --sysconfdir=/opt/local/etc
sysconfdir='/etc'
sysconfdir_expanded='/etc'
