[Box Backup] A success story

A couple of months ago, I made a backup server for a colleague. This
was just an OpenBSD box running Samba, and Box Backup. This ran very
happily, until last saturday when, with this particular person's usual
bad luck with computer hardware, the hard disc failed.

They don't make hard discs like they used to. This was a brand new
Maxtor one. I'm not sure how surprised I am, given the price of the
things. But old hard disc seem to go on for ever, and new ones fail.

Anyway, I grabbed another hard disc, installed OpenBSD on it, and then
left it restoring overnight. In the morning, it was as if nothing had
happened. He's had it for a good few days now, so would have complained
if anything was missing or corrupted.

I hope none of you have had cause to restore from backups when you
actually need them, but it's nice to know that when something did go
wrong, the system worked.

I was extremely glad it worked, I can tell you.
