Yes, I don't doubt that I'd have tried 'netstat -l' first (less cruft).
But that does require you to know what all the other ports are so you
can identify box, which probably I didn't. Or get an active connection
and use -a or something. Or mess around starting/stopping the daemon.

When it came down to it a grep -i port **/* was probably just easier. :)
