Hi,

I am trying to compile boxbackup-0.07 on debian stable. I have installed
openssl-0.9.7 from www.backports.org/debian, and libssl-dev. There are
openssl header files in /usr/include/openssl, and in /usr/lib there is

dementor:/usr/lib# ls -lF libssl*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 255058 Jul 28 14:50 libssl.a
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root           15 Sep 11 21:21 libssl.so ->
libssl.so.0.9.7
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 182084 Mar 3 2004 libssl.so.0.9.6
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 186372 Jul 28 14:50 libssl.so.0.9.7
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 269186 Jul 28 14:50 libssl_pic.a
dementor:/usr/lib#

Well, whatever I do, if I run configure in boxbackup-0.07 it says

Checking environment...
OpenSSL 1: no
OpenSSL 2: no
curses: no
ncurses: no
USE_MALLOC: no
Finished checking headers
---------------------
WARNING: readline isn't installed
---------------------
---------------------
WARNING: db is not installed -- will run in reduced efficiency mode
without it.
---------------------

ERROR: You need to install OpenSSL, preferably at least version 0.9.7.

If you believe you have installed OpenSSL, check that the headers are
installed
as well ('dev' packages?)

See documentation on web site if you need to add extra search paths.
=================================end ./configure output===================

I don't really know what it wants, so I have a hard time figuring out why
it is of the opinion that OpenSSL is not installed.

I looked up the docs, but There is indeed a configuration file
/etc/ssl/openssl.cnf which is left there by the debian package; so I don't
believe there is aproblem with this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,
         Mario.
