This looks like the client is having a problem, and retrying. What's in 
the client logs? These will tell you what the error actually is. You 
could try turning on extended logging on the client to get even more 
information.

In the root, they're not really "directories" but "backup locations". 
Deletion of them is handled differently, when they get marked as 
deleted a couple of days after the location is removed from the 
bbackupd.conf file. The client logs will have told you all about this.
