Hi.
The documentation at the boxbackup homepage took me a long time to grasp
and in the confusion and while testing forth and back, I ended up
writing down the commands I used to accomplish varying tasks..
One thing lead to another and soon I had a html page with command
listings. Html editing was clumsy though and I converted it to a cleaner
xml format and created a simple XSLT stylesheet that produces the messy
html automatically.
Now, the manual has been tested & used by some of my friends already and
I have made various fixes and added clarifying comments here and there.
The outstanding problem with my HOWTO is that it's a frigging wide html
page. I'd say print it in landscape mode and read it from there if you
get tired of scrolling sideways in the browser :)
Anyway.. the basic idea is to provide the instructions in a
task-oriented manner with clear and mostly copy-pastable instructions of
what needs to be done and where transactions between the parties (the
CA, the server and the client(s)) need to be done.
When you find some spot in the howto you can't understand, disagree with
or otherwise want to debate on, just mail me and I'll try to clarify
stuff. :)
If I get time, I would like to document the final major thing - how to
recover when your house burnt down and the only thing you've got is the
1024-byte encoding key that you luckily/responsibly printed and sent to
your grandmother labeled "Winning lotto numbers". :)
The howto is licensed under the least strict Creative Commons license.
