You may have problems with file locking, which bbstored uses to maintain 
integrity of the file system. NFS is more likely to work than CIFS. I'd 
say give it a try if you're prepared to (i) hack the code to remove 
locking as you find it, and (ii) slightly risk the integrity of the store 
in case of power or network failure.
