I do compile native from cygwin, i.e. cross-compiling from cygwin using 
gcc's -mno-cygwin, following the instructions in 
docs/api-docs/backup/win32_build_on_cygwin_using_mingw.txt, which are 
consequently much better tested than the cross-compiler instructions.
