What about all the fiddly bits? Zope, database, tricks needed to keep it running, would there be access for that kind of stuff? Also what is the hard cost?

I think it would be of great benefit to put the thing on Amazon's S3/EC2. Backups can be made to S3 as many times a day as you like, run one or more EC2 instances, never worry about dead hardware again.
Probably cheaper too.
