Congress should act now and declare a Year of Jubilee.

In the Old Testament, the Year of Jubilee was a year where all debts
were forgiven, prisoners were set free and land was restored to its
hereditary owners.

Let Congress declare the forgiveness of debts.

Let all non-violent offenders out of prison.

Sure, a lot of "assets" would disappear off of ledger sheets. A lot of peop=
le and businesses would lose "money."

Banks would have to close their doors.

But the next morning =E2=80=A6 they would want to open them to the
depositors who suddenly didn't need to spend all their income on
mortgages, and to borrowers who suddenly had the financial freedom to
start that business they've dreamed of, or build that addition they've
wanted.

The Year of Jubilee levels the playing field, adjusts the economy and sets t=
he economic barometer back to zero.

Instead of bailing out the fat cats who got us into this mess in the first p=
lace, let's bail out every American.

It would cost us less.

With Americans free to be productive again, we could quickly pay the
foreign investors that hold U.S. debts, or invite the whole world to
participate in the Jubilee Year.

Sounds far-fetched, but it may be better than the proposed alternatives, and=
 it has biblical precedent.
