Judging from the error message that comes up each and every time:

SSL err during Write: error:1409F07F:SSL
routines:SSL3_WRITE_PENDING:bad write retry.
Exception caught (7/33), reset state and waiting to retry....

... it is somewhat likely (7/33 is "a network issue between a client
and a server"). After I patched the Cygwin version I am back to backing
up successfully.
