[Box Backup] Compression during transport?

Sorry if I've missed something obvious, but I couldn't find the answer to this 
from Google etc.

Does boxbackup compress "on the wire" as well as on disk? I ask, because I 
need to evaluate the likely bandwidth cost of an initial "sync" of a machine 
with many Gb of data.

If the answer is "no", then there's another feature idea!
