Yes, I've heard about this MS Office naughtiness before. If the file is 
stored on a Unix server then we can detect such changes by comparing the 
ctime, which no application can forge. But when backing up a Windows 
server, the only options appear to be checking the file size and/or 
checksums of each file which is apparently unmodified (i.e. almost all of 
them).
