I've seen similar things with FF on Windows.  I think it's related to 
several things:

1) Extensions that you may have loaded.
2) How much caching you do.
3) The quality of the Flash plug-in.

Specifically, I had trouble with the Spellbound extension at times.  
Remember that if you're using many tabs and a session manager and 
keeping track of a long history list, then FF's memory requirements can 
balloon substantially.  My FF session is eating 218 MB at the moment (40 
tabs with Tab Mix Plus).

If you're not using extensions, then try clearing your cache and perhaps 
making it smaller.  And maybe try a different Flash plugin.
