Our next meeting will be on Thursday 30th March in Yates, 67 Lewisham High Street SE13 5JX (very close to the police station). Last time we visited this place there was some kind of Tupperware party going on so if you have any problems finding us, my mobile number is 07770 451201. We’ll set off delivering at 8pm.

You will be aware that No2ID does not endorse any political party but we welcome support from them. Our members are drawn from across the political spectrum and from people with no party affiliation. Hopefully this will continue although we do intend highlighting the position of local parties particularly as we have Council and Mayor elections on Thursday May 4th.

If you come across any candidates, canvassers or delivers, please raise the subject of ID Cards. Indeed, it would be very helpful if you would write to candidates when details are available. Blackheath residents won’t need to write to their Lib Dem candidates as I have already made my position clear.

We have had a very positive response from James Cleverely (Tory Mayoral Candidate) and Chris Maines (Lib Dem). The Labour bod has said he can’t tell the difference between his Tesco Reward card and the ID Card. Perhaps you could help put him straight. Other parties that have been supportive locally include Respect, the SWP and UKIP.

The Socialist Councillors proposed a motion some months ago calling on the Council to oppose ID Cards. This was supported by all the other opposition groups (Lib Dems, Green and Tories). Not one Labour Councillor spoke or voted in favour and therefore the motion fell.

On Saturday 1st April, there will be a Mayoral hustings at Ladywell Leisure Centre from 2pm. If you are able to attend, do raise the subject. If you would prefer to go as part of a group, let me know and I’ll try to put you in touch with other people attending. So few people take part in local elections that we could achieve quite a lot with just a little input and I would very much welcome your support.

Thereafter our next scheduled meeting will be on Thursday 13th April. Suggested venues are welcome. On Thursday 27th April, we are providing the speakers for a Lewisham humanists meeting. If anyone would like to talk for 10 minutes on either the technicalities of ID Cards or the principles, do not be backward in coming forward. You won't be alone, as I too will have a walk on part. The venue is the Meeting House, 41 Bromley Road Catford SE6 (corner of Penerley Road) and kick-off is at 8pm.

Thank you for your continuing support. If you haven’t done so already, please write to your MP and any number of peers on our list.

  Yours sincerely,

  Mark Bennett
