The articles are disappearing from Google, Yahoo! and others - 
in fact they have mostly disappeared already.  As links are 
dropped on other sites and the search ranking declines recovery 
will be slower.

As for threads being damaged and gone forever, I would 
not know - I'm presuming adequate backups have been made so 
the site can be recovered intact, but I'm just presuming there.
